National Cancer Survivors Day® 2026

National Cancer Survivors Day® Unites Cancer Survivors and Local Communities to Promote Awareness of Survivorship Challenges

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, communities will unite for the 39th annual National Cancer Survivors Day® – a Celebration of Life honoring anyone living with a history of cancer and encouraging everyone to help lessen the challenges faced by cancer survivors.

Chances are, you know someone who has survived cancer. In the U.S. alone, one out of every three people is expected to receive a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. Currently, about 18.6 million Americans are living as cancer survivors. That number is expected to climb to 22.4 million over the next decade.

On Sunday, June 7, 2026 – as part of the 39th annual National Cancer Survivors Day® – people around the world will come together to honor cancer survivors, celebrate life, and draw attention to the ongoing challenges these survivors face because of their disease.

Honoring Cancer Survivors

National Cancer Survivors Day, observed annually on the first Sunday in June, is a worldwide Celebration of Life that highlights the resilience, strength, and courage of those who have fought and continue to fight cancer. Hundreds of cities across the U.S. and abroad will hold celebrations on this day to honor the unique journeys of the cancer survivors in their community, reaffirm their commitment to lessening the burden of cancer survivorship, and – most importantly – celebrate life.

“A ‘survivor’ is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life,” according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, administrator for the celebration.

National Cancer Survivors Day® is an opportunity for cancer survivors to share their stories, inspire others, and connect with a community that understands their journey. It is a day to recognize the struggles these survivors face and bring attention to the ongoing need for research, resources, and increased public awareness to improve cancer survivors’ quality of life.

“Every cancer survivor’s journey is unique. However, one thing holds true for nearly all of them – the effects of cancer don’t end when treatment does. Survivors often face significant financial hardships, career setbacks, and long-term physical and emotional side effects,” says Foundation spokesperson Laura Shipp. “National Cancer Survivors Day® exists to not only honor these survivors and celebrate life after cancer but also raise awareness of the burdens of cancer survivorship and help promote solutions so cancer survivors can have a better quality of life.”

Celebrating Life Together

The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation is encouraging everyone – cancer survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, family members, and friends – to join the worldwide celebration. The Foundation’s primary mission is to bring awareness to the issues of cancer survivorship in order to improve quality of life for cancer survivors.

Reducing the Burden of Cancer Survivorship

As the number of cancer survivors continues to grow, it is increasingly crucial to address their specific needs. In addition to coping with a serious illness, cancer survivors face many additional challenges. These include escalating medical expenses, insufficient insurance coverage, difficulties with employment, and persistent physical, psychological, and financial issues that continue beyond the conclusion of treatment.

The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation – along with NCSD 2026 national supporters Coping with Cancer, Ipsen, Lantheus, and Springworks Therapeutics  – is encouraging people across the globe to stand with these survivors on National Cancer Survivors Day® and bring attention to these challenges of cancer survivorship.

“When the very first National Cancer Survivors Day® was held on June 5, 1988, cancer was largely viewed as an automatic death sentence. Fortunately, for most people today, that’s no longer the case, even for many advanced cancers,” says Shipp. “In its early days, NCSD helped shift the viewpoint on cancer survival, with cancer survivors proudly showing the world that there can be life after cancer. Now, our goal is to highlight the difficulties cancer survivors face beyond treatment, as life after cancer involves so much more than simply surviving – it’s also about thriving and enjoying a fulfilling life.

As National Cancer Survivors Day® approaches, the NCSD Foundation calls on everyone to promote the importance of addressing the challenges of cancer survivorship and improving quality of life for cancer survivors.
