How To Manage Your Emotions,
Especially during Treatment
- Keep your future goals in mind to keep your spirits up during therapy.
- When a bad day comes along don’t dwell on it – remember the good days.
- When you’re feeling low, try distracting yourself with a book, a hobby or a walk outdoors or have something to look forward to, such as a visit from a friend.
- Rely on family and friends to help you during treatment. It may be difficult to accept help, or some people may have trouble giving it. You may even have to make the first move. Try to be open when talking to others about your illness, treatment, needs and feelings. They take their clues from you.
- Share your feelings with someone outside of your family and friends such as your doctor, nurse, psychologist, social worker or clergyman.
- Seek trained professional help from counselors. They can provide the support you may need.
