Somewhere Inside of Me

by Rona Brackett

Inspiration image

There is a quiet place somewhere inside of me,
a quiet place painted blue or green inside.

It’s a peaceful pause,
a patch of soft earth between trees,
soft as moss,
uncared for, still growing.

There is a quiet moment waiting to be lived,
Unnoticed, unpretentious, uneventful,
a place to rest between appointments,
between emotions, between judgments and in between the importance and
unimportance of its existence.

I hope I can find this quiet place inside of me.
It is found in between looking.
It is discovered when the eye blinks,
In the swallow before words,
In the open throat of a canary before it sings.
