Another Upside Down

by Ernest R. Shifflett

Inspiration image

Sitting in a chair, tubes in my chest,
Can’t move much, for five hours.
Sounds boring, huh? For me now there
Is no such thing as boring.
Each moment, second, minute, hour,
Is cherished, jealously possessed.

Everyday things are noticed now,
My soul overflows with emotions,
My mind only slows down with sleep.
Memories and thoughts tumble over each other
With no dimension of time.
I can just sit and stare out the window,
Drink in the view, the plants, the birds,
For as long as I want and need to.
